Do not accept a kit at spawn. Even if a player throws you a shulker, do not pick it up. They will likely hit you with a knockback stick into a lava pit. Instead, walk or boat away from the spawn radius (at least 500 blocks in the Nether, or 5,000 in the Overworld).
