Tihi Don is a monumental four-volume novel by Soviet writer Mikhail Sholokhov, published between 1928 and 1940. It won the Stalin Prize in 1941 and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1965. The story follows the Cossack people in the Don River region during World War I, the Russian Revolution, and the subsequent Russian Civil War. The central character, Grigory Melekhov, struggles between his love for Aksinya and his duty to his wife, Natalya, all while being torn between the White and Red armies.
