Paul W. S. Anderson’s Monster Hunter transports video-game spectacle to the big screen with emphatic action and minimal pretension. The film follows U.S. Army Ranger Captain Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her specialized unit after a dimensional rift pulls them from a dusty North African outpost into an alien world populated by colossal, predatory creatures. Separated and hunted, Artemis must ally with a taciturn hunter (Tony Jaa), whose knowledge of the land and its rituals becomes the team's best hope for survival.
Upon arrival, the soldiers quickly realize their modern weaponry is largely ineffective against the massive, terrifying creatures inhabiting this realm, such as the subterranean and the sky-ruling Rathalos . Artemis must team up with a local warrior, simply known as The Hunter (played by martial arts star Tony Jaa ), to learn the specialized skills needed to survive and find a way back home.
